‘Random Orbit’ Interactive Artwork

(November 23, 2019)

My most recent work is quite a departure from my jewellery. I was commissioned by Bromsgrove Arts Consortium and Beatfreaks Collective to illustrate one of the provocations resulting from the 'Tell Me What You Want' Project. The project's aim was to discover why people in Bromsgrove (who would like to be) were not more involved in the creative and cultural life of the town. After a survey, workshops and having collated and presented the data, a celebration event was planned to coincide with the annual Christmas 'Light Switch-on' Event in November. Along with three other artists I presented my piece 'Random Orbit' to the public. It was my first large scale interactive artwork. There were four provocations which could be interpreted, I chose 'I'm not Creative'. I felt that some people would feel daunted when faced with a blank sheet of paper. The aim of  'Random Orbit' was to introduce lots of patterns and shapes which could be moved around and repositioned to the individuals choice until a pleasing result was achieved, and thus provoking their creative juices. The brief of the project required that the piece should be accessible to all and to provoke discussion. The artwork was comprised of a large stainless steel board to which magnetic discs decorated with applied enamelled designs. Accessibility was achieved because we are all familiar with fridge magnets. I look forward to further commissions for this type of work.E89AA362-74FA-4A7A-A0EC-049204C0E9B1
